Durban City FC travel to Mauritius on Sunday for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Second Preliminary Round against AS Port Louis 2000, with the Citizens taking a 3–1 advantage into the return fixture.

City secured the first-leg victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium last Sunday, putting themselves in a positive position ahead of the trip to the Cote d’Or National Sports Complex.

With a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages at stake, the Citizens will be looking to complete the job in Mauritius and take another historic step in the Club’s first-ever CAF InterClub campaign.

Striker Tashreeq Morris believes City’s 3–1 win in the first leg puts the team in a good position ahead of Sunday’s return fixture, although he knows the job is not yet finished

“We knew how important it was to win at home. We wanted to put ourselves in a positive position by scoring more than one or two goals. We conceded, but we won the game, and now we know what we need to do going into the second leg,” said Morris.

The forward expects a difficult encounter against an AS Port Louis 2000 side playing on home soil, but believes the technical team’s preparations have put the Citizens in a position to compete.

“We know what they like, we know how they play, and we have an idea of what they are about. The technical team has a plan, and we have been preparing well. There are things we cannot control, whether it is the pitch, the weather or the time of the game. What we can do is prepare properly and go there to win,” he said.

City are now 90 minutes away from reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stages for the first time in the Club’s history.

“It would mean a lot to me personally, to the group and to everyone involved in the Club. It would be the first time the team qualifies for the group stages of a continental competition, so we are looking forward to it,” said Morris.
